Update from Yemi

Our Head of House 2018 Yemi, has just finished her first year of med school at Cardiff University and has been volunteering at a refugee centre in Samos, Greec.
She has been teaching English to a class of Arabic, Farsi and French speaking adults and is also the music teacher there. As an organisation they provide laundry services, kids activities, women’s spaces, language classes and emotional support to individuals living in the camp and Yemi says it has been the most eye-opening experience of my life.

She goes on to say:
'Whilst I have been out here, I’ve met lots of journalists working for various organisations and through them, I have been encouraged to write an article about some of the insights I’ve had into the dynamics of the relationships within the camp: specifically the wide spread discrimination directed towards the recently arrived African asylum seekers. I am starting correspondence with my local MEP who is looking into this issue specifically and wants to take my ideas to EU parliament and I will also be in touch with the head of Africa correspondence at the BBC which is super exciting!
I have also been interviewed for documentary to be aired on Swiss-Italian TV about the camp and living conditions.'

We are very proud of Yemi and the fantastic work she is doing 😊
